Memorial Weekend 2014 @ South Boston Yacht
Memorial Day Weekend is the Official start of the sailing season at the South Boston Yacht Club. This is a two day event: 2 races on Sunday and 1 race on Monday after the Memorial Services at the club. The weather on Sunday was sunny and a nice breeze from the East at around 10 mph. 3 boats were on the line this day with boat #461 Mark DeShong taking 1st place in both race’s followed by Boat#108 Brion Keefe taking 2= 2nds and boat 406 Leo Bowes 2 = 3rds. Monday the day started out gray but things changed early and the weather at start time app.1pm (after memorial service) was very windy from the West at around 15-20 mph today there were 4 boats when boat # 443 Bopper Donald and family came to race. The race today would be sailed from the easterly raft at the club because the “R.C.” still favoring an injured leg felt it would not be good for him to try to get his boat and he also felt it would be good to start at the raft because of all the people at the club could watch them start. Some (2) of the boats went the wrong way and claimed they were not told proper instructions; so they were disqualified and very upset at the “R.C.” when they finished.
Boat # 108 Brion Keefe: Sat 4 pts. + Sun 2 pts. = 6 pts.
Boat #406 Leo Bowes: Sat 6 pts. + Sun .75 pts. = 6 ¾ pts.
Boat #461 Mark DeShong: Sat = 1.5 pts. + Sun 6 pts. (DQ) = 7.5 pts.
Boat #443 Bopper Donald: Sat 8 pts. (DNS) + Sun 6 pts. (DQ) = 14 pts.
Hope All had a Good Time and will see you next time at “The Starting Line”
