Regatta Report: Sullivan Day 2
For what Saturday brought, Sunday could not provide as sailors took to the water for day 2 of the Richard A. Sullivan Regatta. After the local Cohasset triathlon was completed, the Sunday sailing event out of Cohasset Yacht Club got underway with a very hopeful RC departing the dock at the adjusted 1130 harbour start. Many boats left the dock under sail but had to be towed out to the race course as they battled an incoming tide and very little winds.
Race course conditions showed a battling SSE sea breeze against a dying NE gradient and while there were glimmers of hope on the water, the winds did not cooperate to give sailable conditions. Therefore the results from Day 1 stand with Lightning – 459 team of Dave Johnson, Butch Milan and Lenny Walsh winning the 2012 Sullivan Regatta. Second Place went to Tom Lemaire of Newport, RI followed by Mark Deshong of South Boston. The winning team of Lightning, owned by Butch Milan, took home their second Sullivan win with back to back years of 2011 and 2012.
Regatta organizers commented at the end of Sunday. “While today didn’t give the wind we wanted, the race committee and volunteers gave it their best preparing for this event and having an overall very successful event,” spoke Regatta Chair and Cohasset Fleet Captain, Joe Curley. “We had a good turnout for this event and are looking forward to more racing in the weeks ahead. Congratulations to the winning team. They showed everyone who is the boat to beat.”
