South Boston update
The SBYC Fleet rafts are in, and many 210 moorings have been spotted .
The SBYC / BHYC Boston Bay Fleet is looking forward to a great season
this year….with the Fleet’s opening season fleet meeting scheduled
for the week of April 30th- May 4th just prior to the Newport – First
Chance regatta. At this initial Boston Bay Fleet meeting, we will be
holding new elections for the 2 year position, Boston Bay Fleet Captain.
Several candidates have been suggested; including Janet Keefe, Stanley
Kostka, Tim Corbett, Tom Fagan, and voting will occur soon @ this
initial meeting. The fleet will be strong again this season with
approximately 8-10 boats anticipated to be regularly on the line. A
concerted effort is anticipated this year to engage the junior SBYC/BHYC
sailors and everyone is being encouraged to have one junior sailing
program member join each 210 boat whenever possible for the Twilight
series races. Our group will also be discussing with Bob Leslie
advantages of a Wednesday or Thursday twilight series, as well as the
newly initiated alliance with Cottage Park YC’s Saturday race series,
which will feature an interval, and starting sequences for the 210s in
their races. It is expected that several boats from Hingham, Hull may
join our Boston Bay fleet for these Cottage Park weekend races. Joe
Zambella of CPYC has organized this effort, and our new fleet captain
will be working to coordinate these new efforts. We look forward to our
annual Memorial Day race ( see 210 calendar ) to start the season.
General news: Tom Fagan’s been working with Dan Keefe to put a new grid
in his boat, Janet Keefe is eager to spend some more time on the tiller
with brother Brion. Dan Keefe’s also more available, and perhaps will
have a greater time commitment this season with fewer outside projects
or boats. Russell Robinson will be installing a new launcher on the
Kostka boat and Mark deShong has made several upgrades to his 461. Phil
McMann has posted a notice to sell his ( Susan Epstein’s former wood
boat w/ peck keel ) and we’d love to see this boat remain in Southie a
new local 210 sailor adding to the fleet..so we’ll sponsor any potential
210 sailor as a new member in our Boston Fleet clubs.
